Week 2 of the 2017 NFL season is upon us as the Bengals travel to Houston to take on the Texans. Both of these teams are coming off of brutal Week 1 losses. The Texans situation seems to be fixable as they have one of the best defenses in football, and also are giving quarterback DeShaun Watson a chance to take over the starting role. The Bengals, on the other hand, may be headed for a long season. This is a team that is historically bad in prime time under Marvin Lewis and a team that left their best two offensive linemen walk in free agency prior to the 2017 season. As a result, it could be a long year for the Bengals.
While the Bengals are usually decent against rookie quarterbacks making their first career starts, they are historically terrible in prime time under Marvin Lewis. Andy Dalton throws lots of picks usually as the team comes in with an ultraconservative mindset that makes it easy for opposing defenses to feast. Against a team such as the Texans, such an approach is deadly, as the Bengals look to start the season 0-2 on the road in Houston. I have to go with the Texans in this one, because history. Final score: Texans 27, Bengals 17.--Mike B. (9-6).
This one is simple for me. Marvin Lewis in prime time is horrendous. The Bengals aren't great under Dalton and Lewis against the Texans either. I think this game will get ugly in the 2nd half for the Bengals and show how good Watson can look under the center for the Texans. Texans win 31 - 20 over the Bengals. --- Matt Koontz (9-6)
