Ben Beckwith started his college career at Mississippi State as a walk-on, and now ends it hoping for a spot on an NFL roster. Beckwith is a hard working player who has been an underdog his entire career, and has the potential to make an impact on an NFL franchise; at worst, he projects as a capable NFL backup in my opinion after a solid final season in college.
Beckwith is a good kid with a great character and will be an asset to any NFL locker room. There hasn't been much news about him coming out of the Shrine Week practices so far, but here's hoping that he's made a solid impression on scouts. Beckwith could be a steal in the 2015 draft, and I'd love to see him end up with in a good spot in the NFL. It bothers me that he's not getting more coverage from sports writers; Beckwith and Jamon Brown have two of the best stories out of any offensive line prospects in this year's drafts. Cole Farrand is an extremely hard working player from Maryland. He's tough and has played through many injuries in his college career. He projects as a 7th round guy or undrafted free agent, but he was Maryland's leading tackler, and the more I read on Cole, the more I like him. I think he'd be worth a shot as a developmental player at the tail end of the draft. He's struggled a bit in practice this week, and that has some scouts jumping ship, but a solid performance on game day could help him turn some heads this week. Cole's a tough, tough player, and that toughness will benefit him as he pursues an NFL career. He's a good character guy, and finished his degree before pursuing an NFL career. Even if the NFL doesn't work out, he's got a bright future ahead of him. Here's hoping that he has a strong finish to Shrine Week and the combine. There are questions about Cole's athleticism, but his physical and mental toughness may help him stick with an NFL team. He deserves a chance, and hopefully he gets one. Ben and Cole, if you're reading this, good luck from www.mattandmikesports.com! Here's hoping for a great end to practices this week and an outstanding performance on Saturday! Go get 'em! We hope to hear your names called in the draft this spring, and hope you guys both have solid NFL careers. Best of luck guys, and go get 'em! --Mike B
