  • We're halfway through Shrine Week practices, and it's time for an update. I'll give you some quick hits and noteworthy news in this post.

  • Anyone remember that projected 7th round WR I talked up and said would be an absolute steal late in the draft in my big board? Tre McBride anyone? That's a bingo! He's been the most impressive player in practice so far this week, and is making a strong case for himself in practice.  Matt thinks the kid is going to be great, and he could be right even if he did go to the same high school as Kiper. Unlike Mel, Matt was smart enough to know that Clausen would likely be an NFL backup QB...This was when Matt was still in high school.  My analysis of McBride was absolutely spot on on my big board.  Here it is:
  •
  • Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary.  Tre McBride projects as a 7th round pick or UDFA, and that's a steal. If he was playing for a bigger program, we could be talking about a 3rd or 4th round pick. He's a solid kick returner, and a clutch WR. He's reminded some experts of Pierre Garcon. Who wouldn't want Pierre Garcon in the 7th round? McBride will make an NFL roster and will make an impact at the next level. I think he's way underrated, and I expect his stock to rise at the Shrine Game. Here's some film.

  • Other guys turning heads in practice so far this week are Western University-Ontario DT Daryl waud, Kansas LB Ben Heeney, Michigan State LB Taiwan Jones, and Stanford LB James Vaughters. Off the field, South Dakota State University RB Zach Zenner is turning heads for spending time with a 5 year old who has spent most of his life in and out of hospitals. He spent 30 minutes playing Foosball with him and made a good impact on both the boy and his family. This shows that Zenner is a classy guy off the field, and will make teams even more comfortable with him in the later rounds.

  •  The Vikings and Dolphins have both met with Zenner at the game. Other notable meetings include the Jets talking to McBride, the Chargers talking to kicker Niklas Sade from NC State,  Jamon Brown (the tackle from Louisville) talking with the Cardinals, and the Packers talking to Texas RB Malcolm Brown. Here's the list that www.nfl.com has up so far (link). They're missing a few guys like Brown with the Packers and Zenner with the Vikings.:
