In a semi-satisfying piece of news, Kevin Lee says that he plans to move up to welterweight after his fight last week. He spoke about how terrible this weight cut went and noted that this wasn't the only one to be rough on him. He wants to move up to be healthier and not have the cut be as big of an impact on his performance.
In a way, Ian McCall just retired this week. He asked for his free-agency and the UFC agreed. He hasn't fought since 2015 and has pulled out of ten fights in his career due to various injuries. I say he retired because he is claiming he is now only accepting fights that make him more than $100k per fight. Those numbers are relatively high for the new UFC payscale and may detract other companies from wanting to sign him.
Johny Hendricks has made big life changes heading to this next fight and the future. He has moved out to train with Greg Jackson full-time and has been working with a UFC nutritionist to maintain a healthy weight cut. He said the guys at Jackson helped bring out his fire and he says he feels like the fighter he was years ago.
UFC Fresno just got a new fight seeing Bryan Caraway finally back against Luke Sanders. Sanders is coming off the first loss of his career.
Gokhan Saki got added to UFC 219 which is the last card of the year. He will be facing off against Khalil Rountree. This should be a fun match between two power strikers.
Dana White said that they are organizing a title fight between Cyborg and Holly Holm, but did not provide any details. Cyborg made claims that she wants it to be at UFC 219, but they are trying to pay her less than her last fight.
Both Stephen Thompson and Rafael dos Anjos have called out fighting Robbie Lawler for an Interim title fight. This comes on the heels of Tyron Woodley saying he is taking time off to nurse a shoulder injury. Thompson has a fight coming up against Jorge Masvidal and admits he needs a win there to be considered for an Interim title fight. A couple days after I added this, RDA got confirmed against Lawler for UFC on Fox 26, but not for an Interim title.
This week with Conor: I haven't added this for a few weeks because McGregor has been uncharacteristically quiet. It's back on this week even though he has still been quiet, for that exact reason. After winning the interim belt, Dana White said that Tony Ferguson is the only guy next for McGregor. Now Dana has proven very unreliable in what comes out of his mouth, while he is pretending to give people what they ask for, McGregor is off jawing at the next fight that makes no sense, then he eventually gets what he wants instead of what Dana said they are doing. So it makes for a very interesting moment that Dana is apparently steadfast as declaring Ferguson as Conor's next fight and absolutely nothing saying otherwise.
Rafael Natal announced his retirement at the beginning of the week. After 15 years he decided that he is going to become a coach for the other members of his gym.
Anthony Johnson's manager is claiming that Rumble is looking to come back to the UFC and as a heavyweight. No other comments have come out and there are currently no official confirmations, but it would be fun to see Rumble back in the octagon.
Nothing is official yet, but after starting a poll for his fans on social media, Dan Cormier announced that by popular demand he will fight Oezdemir next. There is not date set, but both parties agree to the fight and hope it can come soon.
Demetrious Johnson has said that if he can keep his title against Ray Borg, he will be looking to UFC 218 for his next competitor. At 218, Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis will fight for what Johnson believes is the number 1 contender spot.
The first two fights have been added to the UFC 218 card and we get to see Holloway defend the featherweight belt against Frankie Edgar. Unless another title fight comes along, what is most likely the co-main is Alistair Overeem vs Francis Ngannou. Ngannou called out Overeem to fill the spot when Junior Dos Santos had to back out of their fight at UFC 215. For whatever reason the fight wasn't able to be made at that time so they will be meeting up at 218.
Soon after, the UFC offered up another a couple more fights for 218. Alex Oliveira will slug it out against Yancy Medeiros. Oliveira is undefeated in his last five fights and Medeiros is 2-0 since his move to welterweight. Justn Gaethje will take one his rival coach in this season of The Ultimate Fighter, Eddie Alvarez.
Cub Swanson vs Brian Ortega has been made official for the Fight Night Fresno main event in December. Undefeated Ortega will be looking to break into the top 5 against #4 Swanson.
Carlos Condit is finally coming back from the dead to try and get back in the win column against Neil Magny at UFC 219. Condit's last fight was in Aug. 2016 and his last win was in May 2015. Many people will be cheering for this fan favorite and with this being his return fans will be more excited than ever.
