UFC 182 is yes the first fight of the new year. But it might also be the biggest fight in the history of the sport. This is the biggest rivalry in the sport at least since Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Lidell. This is going to be a brawl between Cormier and Jon "Bones" Jones. Here are the predictions.
Jon "Bones" Jones vs. Daniel Cormier: This fight is so hard to call because I respect them both so much. I didn't like Cormier in the heavyweight division. Now in lightweight he is flawless. Jon is a great fighter but I truly belive he lost to Gustafson and I belive his reach is the only reason he's so good. If Cormier can close the gap Jon is going to be in a ton of trouble. I am having a really hard time picking this fight. I will take a risk and go undefeated underdog to beat Jon up and get a 3rd round KO to become the new champion.
Donald Cerrone vs. Miles "Fury" Jury: This fight is a freaking brawl and has tons of excitement built into it. Don't expect these two to touch gloves. I am so torn between the two because I love them both as fighters. I am ready for this one as a co-main event. I am going to take Cerrone in this one. He's the veteran fighter. He's going to submit Jury in the second round with a rear naked choke.
Brad Taveras vs. Nate Marquardt: Brad is going up against a real veteran of the octagon. Marquardt is a great fighter and he is going to need his experience in this. I think Taveras is going to take out the 35 year old Marquardt without much of a problem. Second round knock out of Marquardt on the way.
Kyoji Horiguchi vs. Louis Gaudinot: Horiguchi is a good fighter and will eventually work his way through the flyweight division. Gaudinot has a huge heart and is a purely striking fighter. If he can keep this fight standing he will absolutely win. I will take Gaudinot in a first round KO.
Dominick Cruz has tragically torn his ACL in his right knee. It's his third torn ACL previous two were in his left knee. Get well dude. I truly think your one of the best fighters of all time if healthy.
McDonald was unjustly told he will not be fighting for the welterweight title at least not in the next title fight. He deserves it entirely. He's extremely gifted and very talented it would be one heck of a fight against Lawler. Sorry Rory your getting screwed.
Rashad Evans is set to return to the octagon in February. His return back from injury is going to be a tough one as he takes on a monster of a man in Glover Texiera. I am not picking anyone yet but I as of now am leaning towards "Suga" Evans.
CM PUNK IS officially apart of the UFC!!!!!!! he is a true athlete and will be a freak in the UFC. I am so excited!!!!!! good call Punk.
UFC 181 is this Saturday December 6th and I call this a Christmas present to all of us.
Johnny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler: Talk about an absolute brawl. This is potentially fight of the year. Johnny has been a beast as of late and beat Lawler in their first match up with a torn bicep which is incredibly impressive. But I think we need to remember Lawler has now learned his fight style and will be coming in prepared for the Brawl. I got this fight going 5 rounds again split-decision going to Hendricks to retain his title.
Pettis vs. Melendez should be equally as good as the main event. I have been waiting for what seems like forever just to see Pettis in action again after the injury. Unfortunately he isn't being eased back into the UFC. It's quite the opposite he is coming into a title defense against a great fighter in Gilbert Melendez and will need to be fully healthy and ready for this fight. I take Pettis still though as he is the more all around perfect fighter. Pettis with a 4th round KO.
Travis Browne vs. Brendan Schaub is being talked about like it should be a great fight I actually disagree I mean yes great for the fans but not so much for Schaub. I truly believe Travis Browne should change his nickname from Hapa to the Tank. I can't wait for this fight just to see Travis fight again. I got a 2nd round KO by Travis Browne stopping the talks of Brendan Schaub being a great heavyweight.
Todd Duffee vs Anthony Hamilton should be one heck of a heavyweight clash. Duffee has to hope Hamilton though is willing to stand and fight with him because Anthony is without a doubt the better wrestler and will make Duffees life hell if it goes to the mat. But if they stay standing, which I believe Todd will have worked on takedown defense enough to keep it that way, this fight will be one heck of a battle. I will go Duffee third round TKO.
Tony Ferguson vs Abel Trujillo will be a good fight at 155. Abel is an explosive beast at 155. Tony is more of a steady paced fighter with extremely good conditioning. This fight not be the biggest of names but it has the potential to be a sneaky good fight. definitely worth watching. I don't really know how to call this one but I want to stick with my original thought. I am going with Abel with a decision after 3 interesting rounds.
Urijah Faber vs Francisco Rivera look I'm going to be professional but I will admit Urijah is my least favorite fighter in the ufc but I think he's incredibly gifted and talented. He is going into a clash with a submission artist in Rivera and this fight will definitely go to the mat and make this a great fight. I am going to take my hatred out and pick Faber in 2nd round submission.
Eddie Gordon vs Josh Samman this fight will be a tad more boring then the main card fights and what not but Samman is a violent mauler who will bring it this match but he's fighting a strong competitor in Eddie Gordon and will have to make sure he is ready for a guy who can win on the mat. I take Eddie in a decision to move to 8-1.
Corey Anderson vs Justin Jones I don't know much about Justin Jones and I kind of like from what I've seen of Corey Anderson. I am going to go with Corey just based off knowledge of him and not knowing much about Justin so I will admit I could be wrong about it Anderson in split-decision.
Raquel Pennington vs Ashlee Evans-Smith I don't think Raquel should be in the UFC I don't believe she is all that gifted technically and I think the new comer Ashlee Evans-Smith is going to show it. I got Smith winning with a 2nd round TKO.
Sergio Pettis vs Matt Hobar this is a fight for as low as it is on the card I think everyone should watch and pay attention to. I absolutely love Sergio Pettis he is to me a future super star just like his brother he is so exciting to watch and brings so much to the Octagon. Hobar comes in off a win and looks to carry momentum into this one but I think it will be a moot point. I got Sergio Pettis first round KO.
Alex White vs Clay Collard both fighters are coming in off a loss and this fight could be a pretty boring way to kick off one of the best fight cards I've seen in a while. I will say I think Alex White has potential and will win this thing 2nd round submission.
I think Dana White just made a mistake and I'm one of his biggest fans. but signing a 6 year deal with reebok making them the uniform sponsor of UFC is a mistake. it kills individuality it makes fighters all fight under same sponsors and it kills all small companies. I really don't like the deal at all it includes walk in uniforms just no originality now and it's just going to kill the small mma brand companies. I really wanna hear McGregors opinion on this one same with Ronda Rousey.
One good but bad side of it is that fighters will now get paid due to rankings. 1-5,6-10,11-15, and the unranked of each weight class is how they will now get paid which I hope is more then sponsorship would have made them or they could lose fighters that are important to the sport.
