Week 5 of the NFL: Week 4 wasn’t really as wild as I hoped but we had a few crazy games and a second consecutive upset by the Buffalo Bills. We won’t see 4 teams play this weekend and sadly that means two less games this week compared too normal. Those 4 teams getting their bye weeks are, Seattle, Jacksonville, Kansas City, and New Orleans. Here we go its week 5 pick’em time.
Patriots (3-1) @ Browns (0-4): Look the Patriots shouldn’t have lost to the Bills I do not care if they had no Brady they handled and beat tougher teams without Brady. But that’s a moot point this week because Brady is back and will be pissed off and on a savage tear through the league this year. Watch out Browns you will be victim one of his rage. Patriots win 36 – 17 over the Browns.
Eagles (3-0) @ Lions (1-3): Detroit losing to the Bears really made me doubt them as a team and I think Caldwell should be on the hot seat honestly. Not a good week to be a Lions fan either as they will be playing at home but hosting one of the best defenses in the league and that defense’s coordinator is the former coach of these Lions Jim Schwartz. I think Wentz and company will fly way over the Lions heads this weekend. Eagles win 30 – 20 over the Lions.
Bears (1-3) @ Colts (1-3): Do I have to do this one? Like is there a who cares option? Maybe a tie? I mean seriously I have no clue. Um well, Luck and company sucked in England which is weird because London is like a home away from home for Luck so I don’t know maybe the most over-payed player in the NFL is proving why I call him that. While the Bears looked decent this weekend it was at home and it was against the Lions so they can’t really focus on that one too much. They alos lost Kevin White in their win on Sunday. Colts win? 34 – 29 over the Bears.
Titans (1-3) @ Dolphins (1-3): The Titans played a good Houston team last week while the Dolphins got dismantled by the Bengals on Thursday night football. This game is a game between two teams looking to bounce back this weekend and get back into the win column. I think this game is a toss-up honestly but I will go with the underdog. Titans win 24 – 23 over the Dolphins.
Redskins (2-2) @ Ravens (3-1): The Ravens got the test they needed to see where they stand and they did prove they are a better team than last year but they aren’t just quite playoff level just yet. This week though they get an offense only team that will probably have a hard time at M&T Bank because being a Baltimore native the Redskins are a very hated team in this area and it will be fun to watch these Ravens fans get all over them during the game. The Skins if they want a shot to win, Josh Norman will have to hold Steve Smith Sr. under 60 yards. Otherwise good night Washington. One player to watch out for as he makes his NFL debut in this game is Kenneth Dixon the future workhorse of the Baltimore Ravens as he will get a small role to ease him off his injury. Ravens win 26 – 18 over the Redskins.
Texans (3-1) @ Vikings (4-0): The Vikings under Mike Zimmer just impress me more and more every single day in every single way. They seriously could steal the title this year with a beat up team. Meanwhile the Texans defense looked shaky at times as it is missing its life force. If the Texans want to have a shot in this game they are going to have to mix things up and find a way for Fuller and Hopkins to find open space. The Vikings just need to let their defense do the work and Bradford just do what he has been doing, getting the job done enough. (Update 11 AM EST Sunday 10/9/2016 due to Diggs injury). Texans win 16– 13 over the Vikings.
Jets (1-3) @ Steelers (3-1): I think it be more fun to guess how many INT’s Fitzpatrick will throw this week then actually guess the final score. But I will say Pittsburg impressed me with Bell back against the Chiefs on Monday night. The Jets are falling apart at the seams and this week will be equally as ugly. I have little hope for them going into Heinz field. Steelers win 30 – 17 over the Jets, Fitz throws 2 more INTS bringing his 3 week total to 11.
4 PM Games:
Falcons (3-1) @ Broncos (4-0): Offense vs. Defense by definition. The most enjoyable offense to watch in the NFL vs. a top 3 defense in the NFL. This game will be truly enjoyable. Falcons come in as surprisingly 5.5 point underdogs. I think they are the underdog in this game but I think it should be closer to a 2-point spread. Either way the Broncos aren’t sure who their Sunday QB will be and I think with his performance late let Paxton take over already. He is the better QB and won’t need a cart to take him off for a shoulder injury when Joe Flacco can walk off with a torn ACL. I think the Falcons run game is something the Broncos are going to try and focus on but at the same time you have to respect Matt Ryan and the fire power he has out wide especially Julio Jones. This game should be interesting to say the least and as much as I believe the defending champs are possibly the better team I am going with the upset on the road. Falcons win 26 – 23 over the Broncos on a last second Matt Bryant field goal.
Bengals (2-2) @ Cowboys (3-1): I don’t honestly know what to make of Dallas still because of their lack of a defense. It hasn’t been horrendous but how can it be when they have played the Niners and the Bears. I think this will be a true test, AJ Green and Dalton against that defense should show where the Cowboys really stand. This should be a fun one to watch but I have the road team winning based on Burfict being the new energy of that team, they just look too good to bet against right now. Bengals win 27 – 20 over the Cowboys.
Bills (2-2) @ Rams (3-1): Holy moly what a game this will be. Talk about defense vs. defense. Greg Williams, Jeff Fisher, and Mike Singletary this team’s defense in LA could be unbeatable if they get a few more pieces. Meanwhile the Bills have come to life and put up two upsets back to back and will be on the road trying to do it again this week. They have the offense to do it, I just wonder if they can against the Rams defense at home. I am really torn on this game. It really is a coin flip to separate the two. The Rams seem to be getting passed on which does worry me for them in the long haul. I still am not sure if that will affect this game too much. Rams win 17 – 14 over the Bills.
Chargers (1-3) @ Raiders (3-1): I said this in my power rankings the Chargers should be 4-0 if you look at their losses. I seriously am just upset with how they have played closing out games and I’m not even a Chargers fan. The Raiders will be glad to be home after traveling to Nashville and then Baltimore they get to get welcomed though by a potent offense. Both teams offenses are clicking and just unleashing the yards on opposing defenses. This game will be a shootout the only issue is Oakland can’t stop the run if their life depended on it thus far this season. They are the 31st ranked run defense in the league. I think we will see the Chargers use that and Melvin should have a huge game. Chargers win 37 – 34 over the Raiders.
SNF (8:30 PM/ET):
Giants (2-2) @ Packers (2-1): The Giants and Eli will be rolling into the one team they seemingly handle well every single time they meet. Coming off a tough loss on Monday night in Minnesota though the sight of the Lambeau faithful will not be a welcome one for Eli. Rodgers has Nelson back this year and they are clicking and he is spreading the ball to all other targets as normal again. Lacy has done absolutely nothing running the ball this season and against the 9th ranked rush defense I don’t think that will change much. Lacy is in a contract year so he will need to explode soon if he wants to see a big check from anyone. The Giants better hope Odell doesn’t cry again and complain the game isn’t fun because he is getting dominated. The game is fun to him it just hasn’t been for 2 weeks because he has been shown he isn’t a true top 5 WR and he is crying about it. Packers win this one 31 – 26 over the Giants.
MNF (8:30 PM/ET):
Buccaneers (1-3) @ Panthers (1-3): The Panthers are really struggling this year and that is in large part to their terrible pass defense. The offense is clicking and the run defense is top 10 in the league but they can’t stop the pass and until they do they could be in trouble. The Buccaneers on the other hand are putting their defense in bad spots each week with their constant turnovers. I think this Monday night game could be a close one or a sloppy one which would favor the Panthers. As of now I am not sure if Cam is playing Monday because I am making my picks on Thursday during the day but I think he will and I think the result will be the same with or without Cam. Panthers win 28 – 24 over the Buccaneers.
Indianapolis over Chicago 21-13
New England over Cleveland 42-14
Philadelphia over Detroit 28-10
Baltimore over Washington 17-14
Tennessee over Miami 20-14
Minnesota over Houston 21-20
Pittsburgh over New York Jets 28-20
Atlanta over Denver 24-17
Cincinnati over Dallas 24-10
Oakland over San Diego 27-24
Las Angeles over Buffalo 17-7
Green Bay over New York Giants 35-24
Tampa Bay over Carolina 17-14
New England Patriots @ Cleveland Browns. Tom Brady's return to action after a suspension? Patriots beat anyone, especially Cleveland. Patriots dominate in Cleveland. Final score: New England Patriots 35, Cleveland Browns 14.
Tennessee Titans @ Miami Dolphins. The Titans are doing some nice things offensively, even without much depth at wide receiver. The Dolphins, however, are the slightly better team right now. Miami should win this one, barely. Final score: Miami Dolphins 21, Tennessee Titans 20.
Chicago Bears @ Indianapolis Colts. This is going to be a tough game to watch. The Colts have Andrew Luck and a ton of holes around him. The Bears have Brian Hoyer, and lots of holes around him. Luck beats Hoyer, and the Bears lose this game. Final score: Indianapolis Colts 24, Chicago Bears 14.
Houston Texans @ Minnesota Vikings. The Texans are actually a pretty good team, but the Vikings are better. Mike Zimmer prevails, and the Vikings defense helps bring this one home. Final score: Minnesota Vikings 14, Houston Texans 7.
Washington Redskins @ Baltimore Ravens. I don't like either of these teams from a long-term perspective, but Washington could surprise a lot of people this week and knock off a Ravens team that has been winning games. Washington wins in honor of Columbus. Final score: Washington Redskins 23, Baltimore Ravens 20.
New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers. If this game was in New York, it might be a bit harder to call, but the Steelers are dominant with Le'Veon Bell back, and they should dominate at home. Final score: Pittsburgh Steelers 35, New York Jets 28.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Detroit Lions. In this matchup, the Eagles travel to Detroit to take on a pretty bad Lions team. With Carson Wentz under center, the Eagles are actually looking pretty good. Philly should win this one relatively easily. Final score: Philadelphia Eagles 27, Detroit Lions 14.
Atlanta Falcons @ Denver Broncos. The Falcons are looking pretty good this year. However, the Broncos are looking even better, and should perform well at home, even with Paxton Lynch making his first career NFL start. I'm taking Denver in this one. Final score: Denver Broncos 24, Atlanta Falcons 14.
Buffalo Bills @ LA Rams. I don't know how to call this game. It should be a pretty entertaining defensive matchup, but the Rams could dominate at home against a Bills offense that lacks Sammy Watkins. That being said, this Bills defense is no joke; they just shut out the Patriots. If you like defenses, this could be the game of the week. I'm going to go for the home team in this one. Barely. Final score: LA Rams 3, Buffalo Bills 2.
San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders. A big matchup between the Raiders and Chargers in Oakland, and the Raiders are on fire. Oakland should do well in this game, even though the Chargers have looked decent even without Keenan Allen. Raiders win. Final score: Oakland Raiders 21, San Diego Chargers 20.
Cincinnati Bengals @ Dallas Cowboys. Can Dak Prescott beat a Bengals defense led by Vontaze Burfict? Even with Tyler Eifert ruled out this will be a hard matchup for the Cowboys. Bengals win. Final score: Cincinnati Bengals 24, Dallas Cowboys 21.
New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers. The Giants have done some things well so far this season, but let's face it. The Packers are the better team here. Especially at home, Green Bay should win this game. I think they will. Final score: Green Bay Packers 28, New York Giants 24.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers. The Bucs are building a good team, but the Panthers are at home and coming off a tough game at home. That being said, Cam Newton has been ruled out for the game. I'm sensing a potential upset here, and initially picked the Buccaneers to win this game. however, with Doug Martin and Charles Sims both doubtful for tomorrow's game, I think the balance will shift back in favor of the Panthers, especially given Derek Anderson's past success against Tampa Bay. Panthers win, barely (updated just before 7 PM EST, Saturday, 10/8/2016) Final score: Carolina Panthers 21, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20.
